Birds of the Air

Blue Jay on my backyard feeder
I chose the name of this blog for a couple of different reasons apart from the beauty of the verse quoted above. The first is that I have a small obsession with birds. I'm a burgeoning "bird nerd," if you will. I have some dear friends and a well-timed photography workshop to thank for that. I have feeders in my back yard and I love to watch the cardinals, woodpeckers, sparrows and finches flit about. Their bright colors and sweet mannerisms "make my heart smile" as Southern Belle would say.

The second reason is actually a couple of verses from Matthew 10 ("Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care...So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows"-verses 29,31) and Matthew 6:26 ("Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?").

This last verse especially, this constant reminder of God's love, protection, provision is something that He's really been walking me through this last year. He provides for our every need, something he does for the birds of the air and for the flowers of the field, but so much more so than that. He causes particular friends to cross our paths when we didn't even know we were missing such lights, He provides that unexpected check at the time when there are too many bills and not enough funds, He answers fervent prayers in ways we couldn't even imagine. He is Jehovah.

SO, while topics on this blog will vary greatly and not always be related specifically to my walk with Christ or His abounding love (get ready for random musings, QotD from the kids I work with, the hilarity that is our life with three dogs and a cat), like the sparrow and swallow in the verse at the top of this blog, I want to my home to be a place near his Almighty Altar.
